What you are saying apparently applies if one wants to wire his paddle
for both the K2's built-in keyer and an external keying device.
PDL N won't work for me when I use my computer as an external keyer
because I have the key plug from the computer wired as a straight key
(with only the tip and ground wired), so all I get is dits when INP is
set to PDLN. If I want to use my paddle when I'm using the computer, the
paddle is wired to the parallel port of the computer and tells the
computer what to send, just like an external keyer. When I'm in this
mode, there's no need or reason to use the K2's built-in keyer.
I may try the diode method of connecting my paddle to the K2 while my
computer's key output is also connected to the K2. More importantly than
having to switch from HAND to PDLN when I'm not using the computer with
the K2, this would allow me also to not have to swap my paddle from the
computer's parallel port to the K2's key jack.
