That'll work, too, but it does require you to swap this parm back 'n forth
between PdLn and HAnd. If you go to ADET and then use the diode ANDing (I
made up a short, 6", jumper with an appropriate jack & plug on each end
with the ANDing diodes in the plug end) then you'll not have to mess with
changing the INP parms. See the K2 manual for the construction of the diode
ANDing circuit. It's on p. 92 of both the Rev B and Rev C manuals. With a
bit of care you CAN fit the diodes into the 1/8" stereo plug case.

>Why would it make any difference if ADET is set to "off" if I use an
>external keyer? Keep in mind that INP must be set to "hand" because an

If you set INP to HAND, It won't matter at all. However, this requires you
to change INP back to PADL N when you use the K2's internal keyer.
Otherwise the K2 will assume that either closure of DIT or DAH is nothing
more than an external keyer input and will generate a DAH the length of the
paddle closure.

If you set INP to PADL N and turn ADET on, then you can use the diode
ANDing and not have to change ADET any more.

ADET was secifically developed for those of us who wanted to have out cake
and eat it, too, by being able to use a "Y" adapter at the KEY input, with
a paddle AND an external keyer (or software keying adapter) connected at
the same time without having the change INO every time.
