I've already run a couple of contests using my computer's contest logging
software as the external keyer with no problems.  ADET was set to "on"
(its default).  Menu item INP (normally set to "PDLN") had to be set to
"HAND" with an external keyer, of course.

Why would it make any difference if ADET is set to "off" if I use an
external keyer?  Keep in mind that INP must be set to "hand" because an
external keyer (or computer keying output) is wired to only the tip and
ground of the plug, just like a straight key.
