[Elecraft] Tool/Equipment ?s...

Hi

First of all the kit I sell is not a noise bridge but a noise generator. =
A noise generator is part of a noise bridge without the bridge. A noise b=
ridge is commonly used to tune antennas or antenna tuners without transmi=
tting. =20

The noise generator is used with the Spectrogram program and a computer. =
The noise generator makes a wide band noise from audio to well over 400 m=
hz to feed into the antenna connection of the K2. This will be over a S9 =
signal. The computer running Spectrogram connected the headphone jack wil=
l show graphically the band pass of the K2 filters making it easy to set =
them up to your liking and it is very accurate. =20

You could also use the generator for a rough alignment of the K2/K1 by pe=
aking the filters while listening for maximum noise. Sometimes the filter=
adjustment is so far off you need a large signal to hear anything. The g=
enerator is strong enough to get through the filters so you can get it in=
the ball park. Then you can finish peeking it up with the watt meter.

A grid dip meter has many uses among: tuning the resonance of antennas, L=
C networks or just about any tuned circuit. It can be used as a low level=
signal source and some of them can be used as a field strength meter. I =
like the antenna analyzer better. It can do everything the GDO can do and=
a lot more (except the field strength meter function) =20

Monitor scopes are used to look at a modulation waveform mostly used for =
AM to check for over modulation. Could be useful on SSB to check for side=
band and carrier rejection. I don' have one so I am no expert on their u=
se. Of course any general purpose scope can do any of this. (I was a tech=
nical instructor for Tektronix for 5 years so I guess you could say I am =
an expert on general purpose scopes :-) =20

I see Don's noise bridge kits mentioned often. Why would I want one? Wh=
at
would it do for me?

Also, I see the occasional grid dip meter offered on eBay. Why would I w=
ant
one, and what would it do for me?

Finally, there are always some monitor scopes offered on eBay. These
evidently let an operator look at his transmitted signal, and also at the
received signal. Why would I want one, what would it do for me, and can =
I
hook one of these from Heathkit, Kenwood, or Yaesu up to my K2?

Thanks for the information...
