I've always used the SP-20 with my PRO and the audio is great. I don't
think I've ever had the internal speaker turned on. Your post explains
why some people complain of the audio and some don't - speakers can
make a major difference.

I've tried and given up on bookshelf speakers on serveral different
rigs - too much bass.  One of the best communications speakers I ever
had was a military surplus plastic coned water resistant thing. It had
a lot of "punch" in the voice range.
