What you are speaking of is the "W2DU" balun. Actually a "choke" type
balun
popularized by Walt Maxwell, W2DU. There isn't any loss in this type of
balun.
There are two versions available, one that is a stack of ferrite cores along
a
length of coax cable giving a 1:1 balanced to unbalanced balun. The other
is a
bit more involved, but gives a 1:4 transformation ratio. The "Wireman"
www.wireman.com carries kits for both models.
