[Elecraft] K2 #2555 on air! couple of questions...

First of all, what a fun experience to build the K2! After phase 2 was
done=20

and the first signals on 40m were received, I could not help but stay up
two=20

nights until 4am to get the other bands done too! I did not encounter a

single glitch/problem!!! (basic kit only, no options installed yet)=20

After listening into most ham bands for 2 days I have to say everything
is working great. With a 40 ft. wire (not dipole really, 10 ft. high)
thrown in my=20

backyard, I was able to hear LU, VK, ZL, YU and ES ranging between 519
to 549. I am impressed how little background noise is there, esp. on
the low HF bands. Using the PRE on 40 m is a somehow new thing for me.
I do not have used the transmitter because I do not=20

have a "real" antenna yet.

I got a couple of questions; I was not able to figure out the answers
from=20

the manual or website.=20

1. CW Audio signal quality and volume:

CW audio quality sounds somehow strange. My ears start hurting after a
while (sounds like the K2 was put in a bucket or under water, esp. in
the narrower filter settings). Any ideas what that could be? Can this
be fixed by installing K2SB?

2. Audio volume sometimes not loud enough

Esp. on the higher HF bands, sometimes I got to put the volume all the
way up. Also, turning it all the way down, does not fully mute the
sound. I believe there is a mod for that, correct?

3. Alignment in transceive vs. receive mode

The band-pass filters are shared between transceive and receive. Does
it matter whether I align those using the transmitter alignment steps or
the receiver alignment steps? I was thinking of using a signal
generator in conjunction with Spectrogram; it sounds like I would be
able to align the band-passes during receive more accurately, right?

4. frequency display off

Turning into the HF band beacons, I realize that K2's qrg is about a 60
Hz to high, i.e. 14,100.60. Is this because of the sidetone, or is my
K2 not aligned correctly?

Thanks in advance.
