If you have the XIT and RIT turned OFF and you are using the same VFO for
both TX and RX (you are NOT in SPLIT mode) your transmit frequency will be
the same as your receive frequency and that frequency will be what is shown
on the display. That assumes that you have the other station tuned in
properly. In SSB that would be having the other station tuned in for a clear
voice on in CW that would be having the other station "zero beat" with the
Sidetone when SPOT is active.
IF you adjust your receive tuning while listening to the other station, you
will also change your transmit frequency too. If you want to adjust the
receive tuning without changing the transmit tuning, momentarily press the
RIT button, then adjust the receive tuning using the knob below the button.
Do NOT adjust the main tuning knob. Now you will not change the frequency by
adjusting your receive tuning. Be sure to recenter the RIT knob or turn RIT
OFF before tuning around the band again, or you will have your receiver on a
different frequency from the transmitter.
I prefer to use SPLIT mode to let me adjust the receive tuning independently
of the transmit frequency. Look up SPLIT in your K2 manual to learn more
about that.
IF you transmit frequency is actually drifting while you are making a single
transmission during CW mode, you are probably experiencing a problem that
turns up very rarely in the K2 frequency encoder circuit. It happens ONLY
when the tuning knob happens to be set exactly to a critical point so that
as you key the rig the frequency control circuit thinks that you are turning
the tuning knob and it will make the frequency shift. You will also see the
frequency shown on the display change too.
IF this is what is happening, check the Elecraft reflector for the "fix" or
write Elecraft Support for the modification needed. Wayne Burdick sent it
out in an e-mail a few weeks ago, but I don't know if it has been posted to
the web site under "Builder's Resources" yet.
