Best to have the molex - APP and everything else connectors.
This document does not say it is the standard - read carefully.....
"The following standards were tentatively adopted for DC power connectors: "
"tentatively" does not sound like a standard to me. This document is dated
from a Novemeber 12, 2000 conference of the ARRL Industry Advisory
Council. The minutes go on to add "The council intends that the tentative
recommendations as well as the items under consideration be submitted to
JAIA for their comments and recommendations." So I don't see anything final
in this stuff.
Now step forward to July 10, 2001, The same group -
http://www.arrl.org/announce/reports-0107/industrial.html
"Agenda Item 1 - Equipment Connector Standards: The issue of approaching
JAIA with the IAC's proposed power and microphone connector standards was
discussed. It was agreed that ARRL Headquarters would document and submit
the proposed standards to JAIA, on behalf of the IAC, which includes
representatives of the major equipment manufacturers. This approach
combines the objectivity of ARRL with the support of a broad industry base.
It was pointed out that JAIA's next meeting is in August, so that our
proposed standards should be received at JAIA by the third week of July to
be included on their agenda."
Sound like they are getting closer to a standard. But then steps in the
Volunteer Resources Committee. so check
out http://www.arrl.org/announce/reports-0107/vrc.html
This is the Volunteer Resources Committee Report to the ARRL Board of
Directors dated July 20, 2001. That is eight months later than the original
IAC report. There it notes says "For over a year there have been
suggestions from several directions suggesting that ARRL support a new
standard for power supply interconnection, the Anderson Powerpole."
Next stop is January 2002 http://www.arrl.org/announce/reports-02/iac.html
From the Industrial Advisory Committee "The Council received a letter
from JAIA regarding IAC's Recommended Interface Standards for Amateur Radio
Equipment. JAIA gave the recommendation most serious consideration, but
stated it was too difficult to implement at this time. However, JAIA
appreciates the benefits of standardization and pledged to look for
opportunities to implement standards in the future."
That make it sound like that recommendation has died for now.
The January 2002 minutes of the Volunteer Resources Committee Report don't
mention the issue.
So where do thing stand now? That is not clear. Anyone have anything more
recent?
