[Elecraft] ssb xmit audio??

I have had several reports of muffled audio from other hams using the k2.
I am using the recomended heil mic from elecraft and have tried several 
different settings of compression and gain.
They notice a difference when the settings are changed but i wonder if maybe 
some folks are not used to hearing a ssb signal that is 10 watts.
Is that probable or should i look into my rig further?
All sounds fairly good on my ic-730 when self monitoring.
