Also maybe of interest to this group..
A few weeks ago I picked up a Cedar Rapids Bug (I wasn't hanging around GXA's house..).. There is one here:

They were a kit in the 30's and 40's. I think they cost around $3.50 at the time. I had bumped into them before, but usually in really bad shape (like, mostly a pile of oxidization and missing parts..).
It is amazingly quite good. Very simple. The one I got was in really really good condition for being at least 75 years old. The rubber bumper long ago ceased to be rubbery..and the bakelite fingerpieces look like they would like to crumble to dust whenever I use them, but the key is really nice to use. If only my fist could do it justice..
Now if only I could find an Eddystone bug, those are really neat.
