Hello all. I know there has been a lot of curiosity about the NR0X station,
and plans for the future. This is something that Karin and I have talked
about at great length, and I can assure you all that this station isn't
going anywhere for a very long time. There has been great interest in
having guest operators come in and operate contests/chase DXpeditions.
Karin and I both very much enjoyed that some of you from the picnic came in
to work NH8S while you were here. That was a really good "warm fuzzy"
moment.
Recently, the decision to upgrade the station has been made. This station
is designed, from the floor up, as a Single OP DX chasing machine. This
doesn't really make it the most effective contest station however, and Karin
and I are planning to change that. This is going to be a lot of work, and
it's going to take some time. I will make every reasonable attempt to keep
as much of the station online as I can over the winter, but we can't promise
to be at 100% through this contest season.
Some of our prospective plans..
Moving the shack to a new location in the house, which will allow Karin a
bit of seclusion from a group of guest operators, and to allow the operators
more space, and less distraction.
Computer network upgrades, to include MySQL database for real time
multi-logging.
House/shack electrical system upgrades, including battery backup for all
logging computers and network resources, and "Plug 'n' Play" portable
generator option.
SO2R/multi OP
And, what may be the single most important upgrade, we have discussed the
possibility of investing in an "ON THE AIR" light to go over the doorway. Hi
hi!
I very much welcome opinions, ideas, and feedback from everyone who knows
more about this than I do (that should pretty much be everyone reading
this). In the meantime, We are open to requests to use the station, in its
current capabilities, for chasing DX or working a contest, our schedules
permitting.
