Will do. I don't expect a stellar signal to noise ratio with these, but they should still be quite usable. I HAVE found software that can use them for your typical scanner purposes, including the trunking stuff. I also saw where someone was decoding P25 digital voice with one. I've been surfing the web on this topic today, and there seems to be quite a bit out there already. I will definitely keep everyone informed when it shows up.

Go on youtube and type in rtl2832 and see what comes up. Here...

Hi Jason,

Yes, that definitely piqued my interest! I'm interested in seeing how it handles all of the noise and crud on 160 meters. I wonder if there is any software available that can turn this into a police / fire radio scanner.
That could be fun.

Looks like you may be the volunteer local Guinea Pig on building and testing one of these. Please keep us up to date on your adventures. It will be interesting to see what your "does" and "don’ts" work out to be. I think that would probably be an interesting demo at a future club meeting.

Good luck.

73,

Joe - K8OM

Has anyone taken a good look at page 30 of the new QST yet? It describes a
$20 little USB gadget for picking up broadcast TV on your computer, that can be rigged to function as an SDR receiver. The frequency range is vhf to 1.7 gig, but there's also a simple upconverter design that makes it useful on the HF bands. To me, this looks like gold! Any other opinions?
