[EIDXA] DXpedition support (e.g. VP6DX, etc.)

I agree with Dave and Jim about the dues. Practically every amateur
radio club I have been a member of in over 60 years has charged dues
or had assessments. I am a member of the Hannibal Amateur Radio Club
and I pay $20 (plus $5 for Terry) each year. What do we receive for
this? Very little except for an invitation to the annual dinner,
which is not club underwritten, and bring a dish to Field Day. The
club membership is small and supports two repeaters which cost money, however.

I should point out that as an EIDXA honorary lifetime member I don't
pay dues anymore. During the years I was a member of the Potomac
Valley Radio club there were no annual dues. When money was needed
the president would access the membership $5 to handle operating
costs such as the club repeater, rent, mailings, etc. After I left
the area annual dues were started by the club as I understand it.

BTW, PVRC didn't support DXpeditions as it is a contest club not a DX
club. The DC area DX club was the National Capitol DX Association
(NCDXA). Many were members of both clubs.

It would appear to me that $10-15 per year extra assessment to create
a DXpedition support fund would not be a financial burden to the
club membership. (I pay more than that when Terry and I have lunch
at a local restaurant.) This fund could be independent of actual
club dues, and could be used to support those DXpeditionary efforts
that the membership chooses. Let's face it, a team spending almost a
third of a million dollars will need financial support. But there
are probably those who still enclose a single "green stamp" with
their QSL cards.

Just my 2 cents .. oops 5 cents worth! :-)
