Hello. I'd also suggest checking the 15 meter coil. Make sure )if you
have a construction manual that the correct coil is installed in that
position. As I recall there was a revision in the manual that corrected a
statement which caused some builders to put the wrong coils into two
positions. I don't recall which coils they were, however. At very least
replace the filter caps and check all of the resistors. The original 723,
which I built in 1965 had low grid levels on all bands and the neutralizing
cap did not make much difference. However, my completely rebuilt unit had
more than adequate grid drive on all bands, and no chirp. I'd suggest
replacing those 450 volt electrolytics with 100 mfd units. I also use a
solid state rectifier, although if you're not doing a complete rebuild, the
extra voltage may cause failure of some marginal components. I know it's a
lot of work, but rebuilding it is the only way to correct all of the
problems that can happen to an aging rig which wasn't built to the highest
standards originally. Good luck.
