02/10/2003:  Members of the Korea DX Club (KDXC) and the Seorak DX Club
will activate Cho Island (AS-168) from October 2nd to 5th. Their
callsign will be DS0DX/2. Activity will be on 80 through 10 meters with

02/10/2003:  Frank, DH5JG, will be active October 2nd to 14th from the
Island of La Palma (IOTA AF-004, DIE-013), Canary Islands, as EA8/DH5JG.
Activity will be on 80 through 10 meters, WARC bands included, mainly

02/10/2003:  Yoshi, JA7AQR, will be active from Male Island (IOTA
OC-033, DIFO FK-013) in New Caledonia from October 2nd to October 6th.
He will operate as FK/JA7AQR on 40 through 10 meter SSB and RTTY. QSL

02/10/2003:  CW DX operation from "Valle Fertil" near Moon Valley in San
Juan province, Argentina. Operators are GACW members Héctor
LU6UO/p, Fernando LW2DX/p and Alberto LU1DZ/p. Date: from October 2nd to
6th. All bands, mainly CW and DX operation. They will operate SSB and 6
meters on secondary basis. CALL: /p means located in San Juan province

02/10/2003:  Look for Madeleine, PA3CUZ/p, to be QRV from Texel Island
(IOTA EU-038) between October 2th and 9th. Activity will be in SSB.

03/10/2003:  Marco, IK1YED/p. plans to be QRV from Residenza Fortificata
di Rolio a Celle Ligure (DCI reference SV-058, for the Italian Castles
Award). Activity will be in the late evening of October 3rd and the

03/10/2003:  Look for K4R to be active on a mini DXpedition to
Shenandoah National Park, Virginia. Activity will be between October 3rd

04/10/2003:  The Wireless Association of South Hills will be QRV from
St. John, US Virgin Islands (NA-106) from October 4th through the 12th
2003. The DXPedition team will be on the air during the California QSO
Party (October 4-5th) and the Pennsylvania QSO Party (October 11-12th).
Join them during the PA contest for an opportunity to snag the rare VI
section during this fun and friendly contest! In addition, St. John is
also listed on the RSGB's IOTA "Most Wanted" list (NA-106) and is in
grid square FK-77. In between the contests, the NP2SH team will be
running both phone and CW stations on all bands 80 through 10 meters as

04/10/2003:  Norbert, DL2RNS, will operate mainly CW as S79NS from the
Seychelles (AF-024) between October 4th and 17th. QSL via home call,

04/10/2003:  Gerhard DJ5IW, Thomas DL2RMC, Hartmut DM5TI and Andree
DL8LAS will be active from Christmas Island (OC-002) as VK9XW, VK9XM,
VK9XT and VK9XA, respectively, from October 4th to 11th. Activity will
be on all modes, 160 through 6 meters with a focus on the lower and the
WARC bands, including operations on AO-40. They will have 3 stations on.

05/10/2003:  Look for Juergen, DJ7JB/p, to be QRV from Borkum Island
(IOTA EU-047, DID N-01 for the German Islands Award) between October 5th
and 10th. Activity will be on 160 through 10 meter SSB. Check the usual

05/10/2003:  Nuccio I7YKN, Christine I7OCD, Marco IZ7CDE, Massimo
IK0RNR, Marisa IK0ZSL and Gianfranco IZ0BFK will be active as IG9L from
the Pelagie Islands (AF-019) between October 5th and 11th. They plan to
operate (on 40, 20, 15, 10 and 6 metres SSB and CW) from the islands of
Lampedusa (IIA AG-001), Lampione (AG-002) and Conigli (AG-004), as well
as from the lighthouse at Capo Grecale (WAIL SI-020, ARLHS ITA-025) on

05/10/2003:  Hadi, DJ2PJ, will be active again as OH0JWH from his QTH on
Eckeroe, Aland Islands (EU-002) between October 5th and 13th. This year
he plans to concentrate on PSK31, RTTY and SSTV. CW and SSB are intended
to play a secondary role, but Hadi will check 160, 80, and 40 metres

07/10/2003:  A group of operators will be active on all bands and modes
as 4M9YY from San Fernando de Apure, in the rare call area YV9 of
Venezuela (ITU 12, CQ 09, WW Loc. FJ67gv), October 7th to 12th. The
group will be active on Satellite, 70 cm, 2 meters and 6 meters as well
as all HF ham bands and modes (160 through 10 meters, WARC included, on
SSB, CW, RTTY, PSK31 and PSK63).QSL direct (maildrop) to 4M9YY, Pakmail

07/10/2003:  The BQ9P Pratas Island expedition will be taking place on
October 7 to 16, 2003. They expect to be QRV at 10:00 UTC October 7th
and QRT at 01:00 UTC October 16th and at least two antennas to setup
before dark in the first day. They will setup 5 stations in total. 160
through 6m +  WARC bands, on CW, SSB, RTTY, SSTV and PSK31. QRG for most
DX window (+/- QRM). Operators: BV4FH, BV3FG, BV3BW, DL3DXX, DK7YY,
JI6KVR, ZL4PO, OE1WHC and N2OO. The QSL manager for BQ9P is Steve, KU9C.

08/10/2003:  Richard, AD5OZ, will be QRV as KL7FBI from Shemya Island
(IOTA NA-037, USI AK-019S, 3rd S. Central county), Alaska, from October
8 to 14. Activity will be mainly CW on 80 to 20 meters. QSL via AD5OZ.

08/10/2003:  Rich, PA0RRS, will be active as VK4SRW/p from the following
islands: Hamilton (OC-160) October 8th; Fraser (OC-142) October 11-13th;

09/10/2003:  Members from the Lufthansa Amateur Radio Club (DL0DLH) will
be operating from the Azores (EU-003), October 9th to 12th, under the
callsign CU2L. Activity will be on HF bands (160 meters included) on
SSB, CW and PSK. Operators are: DL1FDS, DK7TF, DG5FCN, DL4FP and DK7PE.

09/10/2003:  Jim, W7UG and Tom, K7ZZ will operate as V63ZT from Yap
(OC-012), Micronesia, starting around October 9th for one week. Look for
them on 80 through 10 meters (with an emphasis on the WARC bands) SSB
and CW, with some RTTY if there is enough interest in that mode. QSLs

10/10/2003:  Special call YE32OB will be aired (on 10, 15 and 20 meters
SSB, CW and digital modes) from Batam Island (OC-075) between October
10th and 12th during the Ham Festival held by the local ORARI branch and
to celebrate the 32th anniversary of "Otorita Batam"
(http://www.batam.go.id). QSL direct via IZ8CCW. Those who work YE32OB
on three bands or three modes are entitled to have a souvenir from

10/10/2003:  Jack, ZL3CW, will be active as ZM8CW from Raoul Island,
Kermadec Islands (OC-039), from October 10th to 18th, 2003, approx. He
will be there doing maintenance work for the Department of Conservation
and hopes to be active in his spare time. Note this is NOT a DXpedition
as such  but you know Jack is great CW operator and enjoys the challenge

11/10/2003:  Tarrytown, NY (USA-836) will become the Lighthouse at
Sleepy Hollow and will be activated on Saturday, October 11, 2003 from
11:00 AM - 4:00PM (EST) by WA2MZZ (292), KA2ZJE (342), NB2D and others.
ARLHS frequencies, plus 147.06, 147.105. Certificates will be issued by
SASE by KA2ZJE. This special event is to celebrate the village of Sleepy
Hollow taking over the Kingsland State Park and Lighthouse (the
lighthouse will eventually be turned on again). There will be lighthouse
tours, fireworks and other events that will take place this weekend.

11/10/2003:  The Lake Whitney Amateur Radio Club, NZ5T, will be QRV
October 11th (1400 UTC - 1800 UTC) from The Island (USI reference
TX-036L) located in Lake Whitney, Texas. Look for activity on 14.250,

Islands (OC-003) between October 11th and 23rd. Activity will be on all
modes, 160 through 6 meters with a focus on the lower and the WARC

12/10/2003:  Pierre, HB9QQ, will again be on from Liechtenstein as
HB0/HB9QQ starting October 12th, for a few days, if weather and snow
permit, and mainly on 160M. His QTH is at 2200M elevation, and he will

12/10/2003:  Look for K9ZEV to be QRV October 12th from Biddle Island
(USI IN-001R, Not IOTA, Cass county), Indiana. Biddle Island is located
in the Wabash River. Activity will start at 15:00 UTC and go to 22:00
UTC, on 40 and 20 meters. QSL via K9ZEV (QRZ.com) and include SASE for

13/10/2003:  Three of the YLs who operated VK9YL and ZK1XYL last year,
namely Gwen/VK3DYL, June/VK4SJ and Elizabeth/VE7YL (CW), will activate
Christmas Island (OC-002) as VK9XYL from October 13th to 27th. Activity
will be on 80 through 10 meters, SSB and CW - no RTTY or PSK. QSL via

15/10/2003:  Rich, PA0RRS, will be active as VK4SRW/p from Moreton

17/10/2003:  The Atacama Desert Dx group operators XQ1IDM, XQ4ZW,
CE1URH, CE1RQB, CE1VBH, CE1FLS, CA2WUI, CD0906 and CE6TBN will be on the
air as 3G2D from Damas island (IOTA SA-086, DICE ICE-201, WW Loc.
FG40fs) October 17, 18 and 19th. They will be on the air from 160
through 6 meter CW, SSB and RTTY/PSK. They plan to operate 3 stations 24

17/10/2003:  Look for CE0Y/SP9PT and CE0Y/SP9EVP to operate from Easter
Island (SA-001) between October 17th and November 1st. They will be
active on 80 through 6 meter CW, maybe with some PSK, RTTY and SSTV.

18/10/2003:  Sasi, VU3SNM/9V1SM, will be active from Bermuda's
Biological Station for Research, October 18-27th. Look for VU3SNM/VP9 on

It is with great pleasure that I would like to announce the first issue
of CCO Radiosport News, the quarterly newsletter of Contest Club
Ontario. We are a club with well over one hundred members in Ontario.
There could be one or more CCO members in your local club already. CCO
is here to promote competition on the International scene and have done
passably well in the first year of our existence, placing second twice
and fourth and fifth in two other club competitions.

Please have a look at what our editor, Peter West, VE3HG, has produced.
Circulate a copy at your next meeting. You can find Issue #1 for
download from the web at http://www.qsl.net/cco/ . Have a look at the
rest of our activities. If you operate in any contest during the year,
or if you are interested in what some others of us do on weekends, take
a good look at CCO. It's free and a great addition to your present club
activity.
