Well, Joe, I am using HamCall CDROM now and I am having the exact problem
you described. This is the same results as I was getting in my yearlong
effort to solve the problem I was having. If I try to use HamCall I get the
same lock-up and I was getting earlier. Maybe my earlier problem was always
the CDROM. When I told everyone the my original problem was fixed I thought
that remnants of earlier installed versions of DXBase were the cause. When
I thought my earlier problem was fixed, I had not install the HamCall
database and was not using any CDROM database.
The problem is definitely caused by using the CDROM feature. I have an
older version of QRZ that I reinstalled in order to satisfy myself of Joe's
conclusions. I get the same results as Joe so clearly outlined when he
asked us to try the AH0PT/AH0D tests.
Now the question is - IS IT GOING TO GET FIXED so that we can use outside
callsign databases and described in the Help Files of DXBase. Without
regard to DXBase 2010. I think this fix is mandated. There are simply too
many users, so fully satisfied with most DXBase in general, to be ignored.
Without a fix, one of the best features is broken. I cannot understand why
this has taken so long to surface. Even harder to understand is why it
apparently is not going to be corrected.
As per Neal's request, I think it is time all users who would like to use an
outside database to SPEAK UP. We deserved to have this BUG FIXED. It would
seem, after following this reflector and talking to Joe that the fix should
be rather straight forwarded. Just a little time and the right equipment
(i.e. Software).
Come on Neal. We need you!
Ben, KB1FJ
