The reason is that the legacy directory usage of DXBase (as well as many ham
programs) stored configuration files in the program directory which is
protected in Vista and Windows 7. In this case, the OS tries to protect the
program directory by making the legacy program think it had updated the
file(s) but it actually updated a hidden version of it in your hidden
appdata folder. Next time that you start DXBase, none of those changes are
applied as they are in the other copy.
Its a major effort to properly reorganize the data used by DXB (some goes in
the appdata folder, some goes in the Program data directory, some goes in
your Documents directory. So thats what will be done in the first release of
version 10.
Some ham program authors have decided its not worth the re-architecting and
are forcing users to stay outside of the current rules from MS. DXBase is
not one of those programs so it will be Vista/Win7 shortly.
