Joe,
I'm no expert on this and I still use DXBase 2005 but when I went to a
new machine running Vista I did have a tear-your-hair-out problem for a
bit. This may not have anything to do with your issues, but it's
offered as an FYI.
In my cramped shack I log on an old laptop running XP-Pro and do my
QSLing, refdata changing, etc on a desktop in another room where I have
more deskspace. I use a LAN to connect the two and normally I do an
import from the laptop into the desktop log and then when it is up to
date and compacted, I copy it back to the laptop. Maybe not the best
way to do it, but it's worked for me until I replaced the desktop with a
new Vista machine.
I won't bore you with the horrific problems that I've had with the LAN
but the file issues I've had might be applicable to your situation.
In a nutshell, Vista decides where it's going to save some files and to
hell with where you want them. I discovered this when I tried copying
back to my laptop the N7WS.mdb file located in C:\Program Files\DXBase
2005 and it wasn't up to date. After a lot of grief I determined that
Vista was saving the file at C:\Users\Wes\AppData\Local\Virtual
Store\Program Files\DXBase 2005\ .
So on the same machine I had two versions of the log, but they weren't
the same. This is true of refdata.mdb and some others. My registration
file is where I think it should be, but maybe you should double check this.
Good luck,
Wes
