Hi George,
I too recently migrated to a new machine with Vista Home Premium and had the
same internet connection problem with DXB2006. I'm not sure what Jack
suggested you try, but this is what worked for me. In my case my old XP
machine was still running, so I copied the Hosts file in the Windows
directory from that machine over to the new machine. Note this was the
Hosts file in the Windows directory, in which I had made new entries, not
the original one in the Scientific Solutions/DXB2006 folder. In your case,
because your old machine crashed, you'll need to use the Hosts file in the
DXB2007 folder that you indicate you can open and see the list of IP
addresses. (Or I can send you a copy of mine direct.)
The trick is to get that Hosts file in the right location for Vista. It
must reside in C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc. If you look in that
location you will find a Hosts file there. The first line in that file says
"This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows". In my
case DXB renamed that file Hosts.dxb26.bak. I can't remember the exact
sequence of how this happened, but just rename it to something like
Hosts.bak. Then copy the Hosts file from DXB2007 to
C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc. Start up DXB and go to to
Tools/Options/User Options/Internet and see if you can see the IP addresses.
If you can, select the one you want and it should connect. You may have to
edit the Hosts file to add a favorite IP if it's not in the list. Good
luck.
