[Dxbase] MMTTY - for what it is worth - Joe wa6axe

Joe and those interested in this RTTY discussion;

In my original e-mail I only asked if an interface had been provided in the
new version. Those that use MMTTY have long known that Mako does not wish
his programme to be incorporated with commercial (or other programs). But he
has no qualms about allowing authors that wish to provide an interface to
his fine program.

On HamScope, HamScope is one of these programmes that does provide an
interface to MMTTY. But as others have mentioned, it is has clumsy interface
to DXbase. At times HamScope is not reliable and the 'Log It' button fails
to work, in short it burbs. Also, the mode comes across from HS to DXB as
DIGIT (or some odd thing) not RTTY. Sorry to say, this wheel has a few
patches on it and needs to be replaced.

Support on the HamScope reflector? There is simply not a large support group
and it seems very few interface it to any logging programmes at all, so
often questions go unanswered.

Personally and I am sure others agree, I think DXbase would benefit with a
built-in terminal programme and a programme that would be flexible enough to
grow with ALL of the new digital modes and hardware. Right now DXbase does a
great job on using the computer for rig control and CW interface, but why
stop there, after all there are other modes to explore and I would love to
have DXbase be the one to help me do it.

I hasten to point out, this discussion has not stopped me from upgrading to
2007, in fact I very much look forward to see what Jack, Marlo and the gang
have put 'under the hood' for this year. Perhaps at the end of this year
when the annual Wish List comes out we can once again put a friendly bug in
Jack's ear.

The following is strictly from myself and my own findings and thoughts.

The conception that DX4WIN installs MMTTY is not quite correct - as here are
the exact words from their own website LINK :

//quote//

For the record MMTTY is not included in the DX4WIN install software
because the AUTHOR of MMTTY JE3HHT doesn't allow this. See his WebPages
"Commercial Programs are not allowed to include this file", But can be
downloaded and used FREE by any HAMRADIO station.

//unquote//

As can be read/seen above, NO Commercial program can install the MMTTY
"engine" as part of it's own install/program..

What is made available is the "interface" -- which, once the installation of
the logging program is accomplished - then the user has to go to the MMTTY
website itself and download and install the MMTTY "engine".

The "interface" that CAN be used with DXbase is already available FREE!! Of
course, as is the MMTTY "engine" s/w ..

I have been using HamScope as the interface to be able to LOG my RTTY QSOs
directly into DXbase - for quite a long time.

I simply have a directory on my C: drive that is called Hamscope -- and in
that directory is the Hamscope program and the MMTTY engine ...

Then when I work an RTTY QSO, I can LOG that QSO's info "directly" into
DXbase ...

There really is no reason to re-invent the wheel.
