To all:
Today - while talking with Ron (N5IN) about a QSL card file
that he had made and that I had made using the Label Designer
module within DXbase - I sure got a GOOD appreciation for what
we can go through - just to be able to make a label or QSL card
file "that can be used by everyone" ... bottomline:
With SO MANY varieties of printers out there and the manner in
which they (1) have the "printer margins setup" and
(2) "align" the paper in the paper tray -- I now have a better
feeling/handle on just what has to happen when making a label or
QSL card file ...
The BIGGEST problem comes in when we try to make a QSL card file
for printing to a "Single piece of card stock" -- and NOT to an
8.5 X 11" piece of paper..
As an example, the HP printer -- when setting up the paper tray
for a single 3.5 X 5.0" card stock -- when you adjust the alignment
tools -- BOTH sides of the alignment pulls in/out -- thereby
ALWAYS making it so that the card is "CENTERED" in the tray ---
Whereas - on my Lexmark InkJet 5000 printer -- when I do ANY
printing from the paper tray - alignment is ALWAYS push over to
the far-right side ---- I ONLY pull-in on the alignment tool from
left to right -- so, in my case, I always am off-centered to the
right for printing..
After talking with Ron today, I can sure see that in the case of
"single" QSL cards being printed (either printing the WHOLE QSL
card face -- or even just the QSO data on the front of back of the
card stock -- we
WOULD have to make 2 separate label/qsl card files -- so that both
the printer like mine and the printer like Ron's can use the
file --- we would just NAME the file slightly different so that
the user could differentiate between which one to use for his/her
situation..
IF any DXbase user still has not been able to get his/her QSL card
"single card" to print properly - pse send an email and we should
be able to get it going now..
73 to all!
