Yes.  Just start typing the park name or number.  You might have to
right-click on the "Award Values for POTA Search Description" window
and unselect "Search substring" before searching.

To leave POTA in the Custom Award field, but delete the value, tab
into the "Custom award" field and use the up-arrow key to set it to
"--".  Now save the QSO (F10).  Go back to the QSO and put only POTA
in the "Custom award" field.  The value should be "--" by default.
Save the QSO (F10).

Why is it not possible to scroll to the correct value?  Are you saying
that the park is not in the custom award database yet?  I can do
another release if that is the issue.
