[Dx4win] Change?

I'm also a long time user of DX4WIN. If I recall correctly the "4WIN" part
of the name roughly equates to "for Windows". This was done to
differentiate itself from all the other logging programs that ran on
character based/old fashioned DOS. At the time "for Windows" was a big
deal. Not any more. Everything is for Windows, or perhaps for one of the
flavors of Linux.

I am in day 4 of my personal evaluation of HRD 6.x (paid version). As a
general logging program, I like HRD 6.x better than DX4Win 8.x. When HRD
was at 5.x, DX4WIN was better. This is no longer true in my opinion. I'm
slowly migrating to HRD.

Subject: [Dx4win] Change?

I have been using DX4Win since the early 1990s first versions and have
updated many times. The latest Updater to update all parameters is a joy to
use and thanks to whoever wrote the software. Over the years I have
suggested a few changes some of which have been implemented. It is my
belief that any paid for program should reflect the
current usage requirements.

Clearly, the demands of internet, data integration with our station
hardware and the current revolution in QSLing should have meant that DX4Win
would have been updated a few times over the past few years. DX4Win seems
to have stagnated with Version 8.05. In my mind it is falling behind in
features for the user. DX4Win is a great program and works very well for me
but the bottom line is that needs to be updated. I don't know why it isn't
being worked on.

I made the decision last month to research other logging programs with a
download and trial. Most of the them are either too limited in features or
too overblown and hard to learn. All of them will not print directly onto a
QSL card which is a major requirement for me as I QSL several callsigns. I
don't do labels!

The one that seems to come close to DX4Win is Prolog. I quite like it's
operation and have ordered a copy to try. It seems to have all the features
I need and is constantly being updated.

I will post again in a few weeks to let you know my experience with it.
