Peter,
I have no problem running psk31 with my desktop's internal sound card. Here
is how I set mine up:
1. On the K3, hold Data Md and then turn VFO B to select DATA A.
2. In DX4WIN, click on File, Preferences, Control, click on the two drop
down boxes in the middle of the page to select the sound card for both Input
and Output. If you only have one sound card, selecting Default for both
should work. Or you can select the actual sound card if desired. Be sure
to click on File and Save Changes and Exit to save your selections.
3. Open the psk31 window in DX4WIN. Either click on the Window tab and
then select PSK31 or just select Alt 3. This will bring up the psk31
window. If do not see the spectrum and waterfall displays, just click on
the bottom of the send text box (just above the message tabs) and drag the
bottom up to make the send text box smaller. The spectrum and waterfall
displays should now be visable. You can use the button below the spectrum
display to display both, spectrum only or waterfall only. Just toggle that
button to change options.
If you are tuned to a psk freq like 14.070 you should now see multiple
signals being displayed. If you see signals, then you know that your sound
card is now receiving audio from the K3. If you do not see signals, make
sure that you have the volume controls for your desktop sound card turned on
and that you have not muted the microphone or line in channels.
The psk utility built into DX4WIN works fine, but is a bit elementary. I
actually prefer to use DigiPan outside of DX4WIN for making psk31 contacts.
All should work fine with your internal sound card. Be sure to switch the
K3 back to AFSK A if you want to make RTTY contacts.
Let me know if you have any other problems.

Dave, N4QS
