I've been using DX4WIN for several years, and I thought I understood it
pretty well. But I recently saw some strange behavior, and I don't
understand why it happened or how I can prevent it in the future. If someone
can help, I would appreciate it.
This is what happened. I closed the program, shut down my PC and turned off
the power feeding the PC. Several hours later, I turned the power on, turned
the computer on, and opened up DX4WIN, expecting it to boot up in exactly
the same configuration it was in when I closed it. (As far as I know, the
program had closed normally last time I shut it down.) In the past, it
always came up in the same configuration it was in when I closed it.
However, when I opened it up, it came up with the sample log, not my log;
the main window was larger than normal; and most of the other windows I
normally have open were not there. I looked at my preferences, and many were
missing, so I merged a backup copy of my .ini file. That fixed the size of
the main window and populated the preferences.
I went through one-by-one and opened up the other windows I normally have
open. Most, but not all, came up in the positions they were in when I last
closed the program.
Then I tried to bring up the report generator, to check if my DXCC and WAZ
totals were correct. It failed to open. I clicked the "awards" button, and I
saw that all the award data were missing. When I re-entered the data for
DXCC and WAZ, the respective reports opened up and were correct.
Any idea what happened?
Thanks es 73, Rick K0XB
