Mel i hope to be understood.
I think that dx4win is great. I wrote in my previous messages that for me
there is only dx4win as a logging software.
All the time I download a new logging software (believe me I have made it
tenth of time) I am reassured by myself that no other software even come
close to "our" dx4win.
I well understand that Paul is not going to be rich with dx4win even if I
suppose there should be some thousands of licences running around out there.
Any way I am not interested in Paul's pocket affair: if he is still
developing dx4win or he enjoy doing that or he can earn enough money for
himself to be happy or both of them.
We are just talking about possible way to develope our favourite sw and just
talking about my - personal - wish list. It is the very first time that I
ask something for dx4win but I think that I am not alone about that.
Because dx4win is a logging software and not a CAT I understand that at
this time it is gonna be some of very tedious to start a CAT develop.
But because there are some CAT software (I mentioned HRD but it is not
alone: as I said kenwood owners are proud of their proprietary CAT program:
they are simply the best even respect to HRD) I think should be much better
to give the chance to dx4win owner to run at the same time 2 software on the
same com in order to CAT at 100% the radio and in order to enjoy the benefit
coming from either software.
I know that Simon is 1) a great Ham 2) is a great software developer BUT it
is not the only one and all the time a CAT software take live we should go
to the developer asking for that.
No, sorry, this is something related to dx4win.
Instead of spending time for a serious CAT interface, in MY opinion should
be much more interesting to find the way to give the chance of choice the
preferred CAT sw running at the same time with dx4win.

Why not? I really don't think Simon is motivated by business
considerations... HRD is an altruistic undertaking... if he was out to
make money there are better things he could do with his time. The same
is true for Paul;)
> We have to keep in mind that HRD is free while Dx4Win is not.
It makes some money... but Paul has to pay for his development tools and
every hour he spends on DX4Win is an hour he could be spending doing
contract work at typically $50-$100 per hour depending on where he
lives. I'm pretty sure his motive isn't profit. There are some Ham
software developers who have accumulated enough money through other
business ventures that they can afford to develop software just for
fun... Probably Paul isn't there yet ;)

I agree if speed and accuracy are the most important criteria. (they are
for me). There are other programs with many more... and useful... features.
BTW, go to the EQSL site and look at the pages on logging software and
note the number of uploads based on software. DX4Win is ranked first
with nearly 8 million QSOs uploaded. The only one close is Logger32 but
that is free software (and you know about Hams and their legendary
reluctance to open their wallet). Bear in mind that DX4Win, until
recently, wasn't the easiest software to use with eQSL!

Paul needs to do a bit of work on CAT... maybe he will do it. But if I
were in his situation I wouldn't embark on any new features until all
the old ones are working first.
