Hi Joe,

Same experience here, CW keying hasn't been a problem for me either.  My
move to using Winkey was bought about because it was one of the features in
an interface I acquired and since using it I can certainly see the
advantages.  If ever I noticed any slow up before it was usually another
activity that was slowed or halted the CW seemed to have priority which is
how it is supposed to work I think.

Since using Winkey, especially when using auto CQ in contests I now feel
free to check emails, surf the Web and a host of stuff while CQing and can
be assured it is going out fine and my other activities rip along just fine
too.  Most important is I can flip back to the logger screen quickly when a
Q pops up. :)

One comment I will make is I don't like K1EL's timing for paddle entry on
his chips.  I use an old Super Keyer II by Idiom Press, super keyer timing
w/dot & dash memory for me is just so good.  I have tried K1EL's keyers and
always end up with extra dits and bits.  This may be me, so I still use the
Super Keyer for paddle entry and leave the Winkey chip to talk with the
computer.  I don't know what it is I have tried changing weighting, spacing
etc but really have to work at it and still end up with goofy stuff.  Then I
go back to the other and it just flows, well mostly, I can still mess it up
myself too, my keying errors are usually bits missed out so when I get
extra's showing up I know something really is different.  I see he has an
extra timing variable in the K12 chips and maybe WInkey2, perhaps this would
help I am not sure.

Yes spyware and all that stuff, actually one of my biggest gripes is printer
manufactures, look out when you buy a printer and load their software onto
your computer.  They think your computer exists solely to talk to their
printer and any other activity is unnecessary.  Do a "ctrl alt del" and
check what processes are running, Geez everyone wants a byte of your
computer and the poor user gets the left over's.

There is no doubt that Winkey solves the uneven keying problems.  
However, I have been using the DX4WIN keyboard feature for the last ten 
years or so and although the keying problem was often evident in the 
earlier versions, the latest versions (7.xx) seem to be free of the 
problem without requiring Winkey.  I don't believe that there is 
anything special about my computer, and I have several programs running 
at the same time.  It may be that some computers are being slowed down 
by spyware, disk fragmentation, etc.
