[Dx4win] Getting Keyboard CW to Work

I have been using DX4WIN for several years but have never been able to get it to key the rig using keyboard cw. I am using a laptop computer with a usb to serial converter running Windows XP. The rig is an FT-847. The CAT interface seems to work fine for displaying frequency, changing bands etc. How do I configure it to key the rig so I can send keyboard cw? Is there an issue going through the usb to serial converter and if so what kind of configuration will I need to make this work. Thanks for the help.
