Thanks, Guy.
The most obvious change in the country file was to match the primary prefix of
each entity to the ARRL DXCC Awards Credit Listing. This is the listing that
the ARRL sends back to you when you send in a DXCC application or endorsement.
Having these use the same set of prefixes makes cross-checking very simple.
Thus, K became W, 4K2 became R1FJ, etc.
The majority of the work was in resolving "ambiguous" callsigns to the actual
country they were used from. I.e. FO used from Tahiti, Marquesas, Australs or
Clipperton. Many new ones were added, and many others were modified or removed
to make other people's country totals agree. Some prefixes were mapped
incorrectly, i.e. EG9 is Ceuta & Melilla, but EG92 is only Spain.
As a result, some people may have gained or a lost an entity or two. This just
means that the the entity they *thought* the callsign counted for was not the
actual entity where the operation took place. In all such cases, go back to the
QSL card. If there is a mistake, I'm happy to correct it.
There were other corrections like changing some entity names (i.e. UNATET is
now Timor-Leste). Some prefix-to-zone mappings were incorrect. Some entities
are no longer serviced by the ARRL Outgoing QSL bureau.
All these changes are described in the Revision History on my web site.
Again, if there are mistakes, I'm happy to correct them. But I'm confident
that the country database is more complete and correct than it has ever been,
not less so.
