phil, i can't really answer your first question other than to say to install
dx4win and all your software from scratch.  some software you can probably
copy various .ini files over--depends on what you've got.  dx4win may be one
of those that will work.

on the second, i run w2k with ntfs on several machines with excellent
results.  ntfs is a journaling file system and is much more robust than
fat32.  safer.  you can convert a fat32 filesystem to ntfs under w2k, but
it's better to just format from the beginning with ntfs during the w2k
install if you're bringing up a new machine from scratch.  if that's not an
option, the conversion works too.
