By all means set up your new computer with NTFS!

We have a lot of power glitches here in the Seattle area.  I have 3 machines
that run 24x7 - Win2K, WinXP-Pro and Linux.  Both Win machine have NTFS on
both the system and user partitions.  The Linux machine runs the ext2fs.  I
recently had reinstall Linux.

We had had a couple of dips big enough to take down the computers.  The Win
machines came right back.  On the Linux box, Mandrake would not boot, or if
it did would only come up in console mode.  I would repair it by booting to
my Debian partition and running fsck (file system check) to repair the disk.
After the second repair it just "wasn't quite right".

Bottom line, the Linux box now has a UPS.  I'm not so worried about the Win
boxes.  The NTFS file system is very rugged compared to FAT and FAT32.

I would also pass along a hint.  When you install Win2K on the new computer
don't use the whole disk as C:,  Save part of it to use as D: and keep your
data files there.  After you install DX4WIN, move the log from the default
location to D:\... That way if you ever *should* have to reinstall Win2K you
can reformat C: and be *sure* that you're getting a clean install.  All your
data will be on the D: partition and you won't lose it in the reformat
operation.
