These things sure aren't appliances yet, are they?  Just by contrast,  I
replaced the motherboard in my wife's machine with a 900 MHz Athlon and had
zero problems.  FWIW, www.tigerdirect.com has some very inexpensive
motherboard and CPU bundles, and memory is so cheap right now it's a great
time to upgrade.
