[DX] Question about E31A

One note on this: Eritrea, was a protectorate assigned to Ethiopia (by
the old League of Nations and then the United Nations) prior to 14
November, 1962, thus the calls were ET2, not E3 at that time. The only two
active stations, that I knew of (and I was there) were ET2US , The American
club at Kagnew Station, US Army Base, and Aldo, ET2ZU. They became ET3USA
AND ET3ZU ( with the prefixes 9E3 and 9F3 also being allowed) on 14
November,1962, due to the local political group being taken by gun point
into the assembly room, and forced to vote to become a state of
Ethiopia. We woke up one morning and "we were in Ethiopia"
After a long prolonged war between Eritrea and later, their
neighboring southern state, versus Ethiopia, those two states won and
Eritreans were given the right to vote whether to go it alone, or become a
permanent part of Ethiopia. They of course decided to go it alone. There
have been wars and border skirmishes between the two countries ever
since. Eritrea has been the site of numerous wars and different countries
have occupied it for centuries. Muslims and Christians have swept back and
forth many times across the country and have created a mixed racial
profile, with several languages spoken even today. Surprisingly the people
are cheerful and friendly, and It would not surprise me in the least to see
an American base back in there, in support of our ongoing conflict and
"chase" of Bin Laden and associates. The Dahlak Island group lies just off
the coast, in the Red Sea, and would be an excellent place for air forces
to be stationed. The old Russian base there was used during their recent
conflicts in support of Ethiopia against Eritrea. Prior to that it was
held by the Italians in WWII, then the British etc. etc.
