Ron is absolutely right on his two rules, but I would add a
third:  If you're using Outlook or Outlook Express, turn off the
preview pane.  Some viruses have the capability of launching
themselves if the preview pane is visible.

Better yet, get rid of either program and purchase Agent by Forte
as your mail and newsreader.  It was carefully designed so it can
never launch a virus by itself.  Outlook and OE are widely
regarded as the greatest virus spreaders on the internet.
