Here are 2 things to avoid viruii:
1) Open Windows Explorer and then Tools/Folder Options/View and Uncheck
"Hide file extensions for known file types". If you do this it works
systems wide and all file names will be displayed in full. This is critical
because Windows allows file names with multiple 'dots' such as
"antenna.jpg.exe". With file extensions hidden you will just see
"antenna.jpg" and might assume some ham was sending you a picture of his
stacked monobanders when it was actually an program ready to do damage.
When extensions are not suppressed you will have the needed information to
warn you. Incredibly the Microsoft default is to hide extensions!
I saw the extension on the potential virus as SCT, as I recall (I deleted it
so this is from foggy memory), which is a script and potentially dangerous.
2) Never open an attachment that you are not expecting.
I know I will get flamed for saying this...but I do not run an anti virus
program..by following these two simple rules I have never opened a virus
although I have received hundreds of them.
