[DX] It's OUT! - ARRL policy statement on eQSL / DXCC

Steve,
True. eQSL does not need to be compatible. But it sure would have been
nice, and it would have made it easy to use existing logs uploaded to eQSL
as part of LotW. Remember, at a few points last year, there were some
discussions ongoing to acheive that very aim; instead, eQSL will be going
it's own way.
As far as acting as a QSL manager, this is exactly what I got from N5UP when
I expressed concerns over eQSL doing that without permission:
"I don't know how you are defining "appoint us as your QSL Manager".
eQSL.cc is a new, innovative technology that defies definition under the old
terminology. So let me explain how it works, and then you
can decide whether you want to use our service or not." (longwinded self
serving explanation omitted)
Setting aside the fact that eQSL is NOT "new, innovative technology," if
eQSL's head honcho can not understand how printing a QSL card from an
uploaded log is acting as a QSL Manager, and that I was concerned that I had
not explicitly done such an appointment... then I suspect there will be
compliance problems right away which may disqualify eQSL-generated cards.
Despite my misgivings over the system and all of the unsupported hype around
it, I do not wish to see that happen. But if it does, it will be no one's
fault but theirs.

Hey Ron,
As I read it, the eQSL system does not have to be compatible with the LOTW.
What eQSL needs to do, based on how I read it...is to act as a QSL manager,
in essentially the same manner the 'old' QSL managers do..
I'm not sure that is a tweak however. And without the $1 per QSO fee, there
may have been a loss of incentive to do that.
In some respects, that is too bad. I could see how the system could
work....for me....but it has a ways to go before I'm signing on.
