Good point Joe, unfortunately the whole world don't contribute. And it would not be that much. Like you say 5 or 10 dollars from each ham that is the their log, would ease the pain greatly. But it has to be world wide. These major dxpeditions are lucky now that some organizations and radio manufactures contribute. Just hope that these events keep coming.

There are also very many of them who choose to donate anonymously after 
the fact.  Be careful about painting with too broad a bush.

However, there is one clear fact about raising funds for these large
DXpeditions ... if the rest of the world would support the operations
in proportion to the number of QSOs on the same scale as support from
the US (not even counting what the participants put up out of their
own pockets) the funding gap would be much much less.  Recent major
operations show as much as 2/3 of funding from US sources with only
1/4 to 1/3 of QSOs in the US.
