[Let me try this again. My first attempt at posting got bounced back because
the server thought it was spam.]
I went down to our post office this morning to redeem the last of my 2013
IRCs. (Well hopefully the last.) Once again I had a clerk that knew what
they were and processed the redemption quickly. I did ask him the question:
"For other clerks who are not as familiar with IRCs as you, what
instructions would you give them on how to redeem IRCs?" So, here are the
basics. The counter terminal system should be the same for all post offices
in the US so this general process should work.
First -- you scan in the Global Forever Stamps you want to buy. It could be
exactly the same as the number of IRCs you have or bigger. For instance I
bought 20 Global Forever stamps but just had three IRCs.
Second -- you process the IRC redemption by:
1. On the screen select "Stamps"
2. Then select "Redeem".
3. There should be a selection on the screen which says " Foreign IRC"
select that
4. You then have to enter in by hand the value of the IRCs which is $1.10 --
the equivalent of one Global Forever stamp. This value is not automatically
created by scanning in the IRC itself and in fact I am not sure scanning the
IRC does anything in the process.
5. The redemption credit of the IRCs is automatically deducted from the cost
of the Global Forever stamps.
Hope this helps some of you out there if you have a clerk that has never
processed IRC's.
