[Dx-qsl] Claiming 160m DXCC - Sending QSLs

Valuation is easy - about $3.00 per card. Unless the station is a SK or the
logs are closed, I'm willing to wager the majority of them could be replaced
just by making another request. PITA, yes, but probably not irreplaceable.
Considering merchants regularly send diamonds and other jewelry via
Registered Mail, personally, I think that method's a no-brainer.

According to the RSGB's own site
(http://www.rsgb-spectrumforum.org.uk/dxcc%20field%20checking.htm), they
don't check 160 cards.

Now, if someone happens to invite Bill NC1L over as a Guest of Honour to a
British hamfest, I'm sure he'd be more than happy to help out <grin>.

Of course, there's a third method - from what I can see, it's about £385
round-trip from London to Hartford, CT. You don't get much safer than going
to Newington in person. They can even do up your award certificate while you
wait! That's my usual post-Christmas errand, in fact. I drive up and get my
year's worth of cards checked before the year's end. Granted, it's slightly
easier for me!

Agreed. I think that postal services in many industrialized countries are
fine, but even then, I'm more willing to hand carry the cards to a
convention for in-person checking. Even if you insured the cards and the
postal service lost them, how could you possibly attach a value to them that

the postal authority will accept?
