[Dx-qsl] Claiming 160m DXCC - Sending QSLs

Some years ago, that was mandatory. It is no longer the case. I have taken
cards in to 4 different hamfest locations (some - 3 or 4 times) and in each
and every case there were 160 meter cards in my submission and each time
they were checked and approved. It indeed may not be the case overseas, but
here in the states, there is usually either an elected or employed ARRL
official present at the hamfest, and they have been able to check all cards
for several years. I have been doing it for at least the past 10 years and
have never had a problem with them checking any cards, either 160 meters, or
those older than 10 years. I believe I also read, recently, that all
checkers may check all cards now. I presently have 1417 cards verified by
DXCC for the Challenge award, including 101 for the 160 meter band. I have
never submitted any cards at all, via mail, to the DXCC desk. My next
submission is prepared, with 120 cards, plus about 100 verifications to be
purchased from LOTW, and those will be presented to the checkers in Late
June - including 11 more of the 160 meter band cards. FYI , I worked all
of the 160 meter contacts with 100 watts and an inverted L at 40 feet. Its
not easy, but doable.

Hello Peter
Congratulations on achieving 100 entities on topband, well done with only
100 watts!
160m QSL's have to be checked at the ARRL DXCC desk indeed. I do a yearly
submission to the Arrl DXCC desk (combined LoTW and QSL cards because of my
160m QSL's) and always use registered mail. Never had any problems. Needless
to say to take care to use a very strong envelope or parcel. Normally it
takes about 1 week to arrive at Newington. After about 14 days you can check
if your mailing has been received (and view expected processing time) at:
http://www.arrl.org/awards/dxcc/appstatus.html .

I wonder if anyone out there can put my mind at ease. After 11 years of
perseverance with my very bent Inv-L, 100w and questionable radials -? I
finally worked my 100th 160m DXCC entity ( JW/SM0MDG) and received my prized
QSL card.
As far as I am aware 160m cards are not eligible for field checking and must
be submitted to ARRL HQ. I feel a bit uneasy about parting with my valued
cards, what is the best (SAFEST) way of sending my cards to and from
Newington.
