[Dx-qsl] Increase in UK Postal prices

Yes, US postage prices are very reasonable, despite their constant and rapid
rises within the past few years. I laugh when I hear people complain about the
USPS. We get deliveries 6 days a week (for now, at least), most mail is
delivered domestically within 3 or 4 days and overnight charges aren't
hideous.
I compare that to Canada's postal system which is dysfunctional at best, slow
and hideously expensive (at least it was when I moved to the US in 2000). AT
$1.65, I believe the cost of a single QSL in an envelope to an international
destination is the world's second most expensive, after Germany (?1,70).
What I do miss about mailing from the United States is the elimination of
surface mail, which has increased the prices for the Bureau as well as for
anybody shipping heavy boxes that are non-time-sensitive.

As a matter of interest, I notice on the USPS site, that the USA basic-rate
intercontinental airmail letter rate weight is 1oz (presently 94 cents)
equivalent to 29 gm. Almost 3 times the UK weight allowance for very nearly
an equivalent price!
