[Dx-qsl] Alerts via email to Blackberry

Paul (et al)
The problem with VE7CC's otherwise-perfect program is that it doesn't allow
for authentication. Because of spammers, pretty well every ISP requires
password authentication, and Lee, for whatever reason, won't implement it.
As such, at least for me, it's impossible to send anything outbound from AR
User to *any* e-mail address. It worked with Comcast cable but doesn't work
with Verizon FiOS (whose whole e-mail system is totally locked down).

Sadly, DX Base lacks the ability to e-mail, thus having any "known-needed"
band/mode/all-time needs alerted can't really be done. It IS possible, I
suppose, to have manually-entered filters for DXpeditions, etc.

As to BB's, they have their own address(es) and can also get copies of all
your other POP-3 and IMAP e-mail addresses as well. I have my BB set to get
e-mail from 4 addys -- my BB's own account for ultra-critical notifications
(that's where I want my DX alerts to go), my ham address, my business
address and my NJDXA.ORG address. Pry it from my cold dead fingers!

That works well to "regular" email Mike, and I use it
occasionally. I don't know what you do once you get it to your PC's
email. I presume you can then have your email client (Outlook or
whatever) forward it to your Blackberry.

I haven't got a Blackberry and don't know anything about
them. Maybe you can configure VE7CC's alarm system to email your
Blackberry directly is there is a SMTP server associated with the
Blackberry service.
