It is very close to $1. The actual postage to the United States is
CDN$0.93. Then you have 6% GST that brings it up to CDN$0.99. Today
the exchange rate is US$1.00 = CDN$1.0703. Figure you will get maybe
CDN$1.04 at a bank in exchange and you wind up with a difference of
CDN$0.05.
Everytime I visit my sister and her family in Mississauga, I stop by the
local CanadaPost to make sure I have a few stamps on hand in case I need
to send an SASE to Canada. It is quite disturbing to have seen the cost
of postage to the United States go from CDN$0.52 in the late 1990's to
what it is now. In contrast, we have gone from US$0.46 to US$0.69 in
the same period AND the weight allowance went from 1/2 ounce to 1 ounce.
