[Dx-qsl] SWL data is correct, but

Masa and al.,

I agree well the ambiguity you have. However, this is just
as segment of our activity that was impacted by internet.

The existence and use of itnernet has dramatically changed
the hobby itself (on-line logs, propagation predictions,
DXpedition announcemnts, DX station activity monitoring,
QSL info finding etc..), just to name a few.
Even new amateur services, dependent on internet, like
echoLink, or VoiceOverIP have taken place.

With all these tools available, we became more selctive
in HF communications, minimized our TX time (work
only what you need), even more time spending on
computer than on the air.

The existence of internet may have changed the role of
SWL hobby as well. There may have been some misuses as you are
pointing out. But rather than pin-pointing the individuals,
let us revisit the traditional SWL-activity alltogether,
where he/she hears the signal, sends a report to THAT
station, and awaits response from the signal originator
(or manager).

How about two ideas:

1. HF Beacons report instant QSLing! As soon as you hear the
beacon signal you send a request to URL site for that
beacon and get instantaneous response in form of el.QSL card.

2. Instead of reporting reception of DX station's signal to
the station itslef, how about reporting to a DB of
all cluster spots that can be assembled at the moment.
The report has to be submitted within 15 minutes
after the spot has been posted, otherwise it is aged-out.

Obviously these two ideas still are prone to misuse, but
they should be opposed by propagation probability, or number
of reports of the same station, and as such
marked as " xx% probable". Now the SWL award managers
may accept only 50% or more probable reports.

As said these are just ideas, trying to point out that
SWL hobby may need to change with new internet
opportunities. In addition, use of computers, and
'15 minutes race' may attract new breed of young SWL-ers.

Subject: [Dx-qsl] SWL data is correct, but

Hello OMs, I need to consult you.

Today French SWL card comes to me through bureau,
trying to confirm my 3.5MHz CW signal at 2005 WW-CW.
Time is 0844Z and my QSO partner is HL station.
All the data on this SWL card are correct against my log.

However, I am not a big gun running only 150W and never
even hear any F signal on 80m until now.
At the best of my knowledge, I suspect any French station
has almost no possibility to hear my signal at 0844Z on
bottom of November with WW contest QRM within Europe.

Do you DX'ers recommend me to send my confirmation
QSL card to this SWL station?

Masa / JG1OWV
