[Dx-qsl] Snail mail woes

Considering the " stress " that our mail endures these days, perhaps =
this is a good time to remind everyone to look at the s.a.s.e.'s that =
you send to the qsl bureau. As one of the sorters / mailers for the =
W4/K4/N4 bureau, I routinely find envelopes on which the bottom flaps =
were not sealed very well in the mfg. process. When I find these, I =
apply clear tape on them to assure that they are not going to break open =
somewhere in the postal system. The downside of this is that it adds =
weight, sometimes necessitating more postage. Generally, if you spend a =
few more cents on good quality envelopes, you may have a better chance =
of receiving them back safely. =20

As far as the USPS " horror stories "-- in this area of the country, the =
weakest link in getting the mail delivered appears to be the rural =
carrier. I have a " regular " carrier that does a superb job, but when =
he is out, beware !!=20

A few years ago, one of the area carriers became a matter of interest =
because of the speed in which he completed his route on some days and =
the slowness on other days. Upon investigation, it was found that on a =
day where he was tired or bored or whatever, he just took part of the =
mail home with him and dumped it in an old well in his yard. I' ve =
wondered at times if any of those rare dx qsls I watched for are =
residing in the well. No -- he' s no longer carrying the mail, unless =
it' s in the cellblock.=20

99.9 % of postal employees are conscientious, I 'm sure - thankfully.

Now, back to qsl sorting and info......
