Thanks to all who replied.

CT1AHU is indeed the manager, and it appears that it was just a buro goof
that routed the card back to me instead of to him.

Be aware that some on-line databases show CQ5P via CT1ETE, as I noted
earlier, and Paulo tells me that this is NOT correct.

Anyone know for sure the route for CQ5P from the 1996 ARRL DX Contest (SSB)?

I've checked Pathfinder, and CT1AHU or CT1ETE seem to be the correct route.
I've also found via a Google search an email from CT4NH (asking about the
official score & classification of the op), but while it indicates the ops
and that this op was from the Portugese DX Group Contest Team (GPDX), it
doesn't indicate the manager.

I tried sending the card via the bureau. It was returned with no
explanation, just CT1ERK's call written on it pencil & crossed out, and
CT1AHU's call written in pencil and circled. Which implies either CT1AHU is
not the manager for this op, or someone returned it to me instead of
forwarding it to him. And that's why I want to verify before trying again.

Thanks!
