Ernes, let me try to help you understand how this might work.

Here is the worst case.

You work a station managed by KU9C. You send the card IMMEDIATELY the next
day to the bureau.

Lets assume the bureau Mails to the USA once a month. So, one month later
your card comes to the US...probably via surface.

1-2 months later it arrives at the US bureau. Lets assume 2 months.

typically it is sorted at least twice ....all by volunteers...who have other
things to do. Lets assume the first sort takes a month (a guy picks it up
at a meeting, sorts it, returns to the next meeting for the next guy.)

Lets see....we're probably up to 5-6 months already.

My bureau guy, in an attempt to save me money, sends my cards in BIG
boxes...and NOT each month. I pay for bureau costs out of the donations
received, so I try to minimize this expense. There is a good chance I'll
get your card maybe 7-9 months after you send it. in the Worst case.

Now, the delay starts in a big way. I am usually at least 6 months to a
year behind in bureau mailings. Lets take the worst case.....a year...

And then, again to save money, I bulk my cards with other managers, and mail
back to Mario at the I bureau. Surface mail. That takes at least 2
months....

We're closing in on 2 years right there.

I'm not sure how many bureau cards you handle, but I get my cards in 10-30
pound boxes, roughly. And, I get a lot of cards from guys that have already
gotten the card via direct, or via another QSO (how many BQ9P 10 meter Q's
does a guy really need confirmed anyway)???!!!

The majority of this delay is of my own doing, not the QSL bureau. However,
consider that you WILL EVENTUALLY get a bureau card....from KU9C.....it's
just not going to get the same attention as a direct mailing to me.

(Just a side note, the I bureau is special in that it often mails the
packages direct to me which speeds the process incredibly...the I amateurs
are indeed lucky for this service)

73
Steve
