[Dx-qsl] what counts?

Gary,
Keeping mind that this would not be the case under today's rules (since
"DXCC 2000" went into effect):
1. Czechoslovakia counts as a deleted entity. The Czech Republic & the
Slovak Republic count as current entities. Both republics split the ITU
prefixes that had been assigned to Czechoslovakia, and that's why OK, OL and
OM are still active.
Therefore, you have two entities worked -- even though it's the same prefix,
possibly even the same call!
2. There are a total of 3 post-war "Germany's" on the DXCC list. After
WW2, it didn't matter where the station was located, it was all Germany
(consider it for the sake of discussion "Occupied Germany" unless someone
has a better term for it). This entity was deleted in the very early
1970's, about the time the Federal Republic of Germany (West) & German
Democratic Republic (East) were admitted to the UN and thus recognized as
two separate countries. When the GDR was absorbed by the FRG, I remember
quite a bit of discussion as to whether or not the original "Germany" entity
would be reactivated; the decision out of the DXCC Desk & the DXAC was that
the GDR became a deleted entity, but the FRG would remain the active entity.
(And yes, I know they didn't use the term "entities" at the time!) I
believe the reasoning invol
Therefore, you have two entities worked -- the Y23 counts as the deleted GDR
entity, the DA as the active Germany. However, if you worked the DA before
the date that the FRG & GDR were recognized as entities, you still have two
worked, only the DA would count as the deleted Germany.
I wonder if Germany is ever going to use the Y2 - Y9 block for amateurs
again, or are they going to turn it back in to the ITU? (That's what
happened with 9A and 4W, after all...)

Subject: [Dx-qsl] what counts?
This may seem like a stupid question from a fairly experienced DXer, but I
was away from radio for the years surrounding the "reconfiguration" of
Europe...so at the risk of embarassing myself, I'll ask:
1. when it was Czechoslovakia, I worked an OK and it counted as an
entity...it's still listed as a deleted entity (i worked it within the time
period)...last year, when i worked an OK in what is NOW the Czech Republic,
is that a separate entity? in other words, do I get credit for two entities
with the passage of time?
2. slightly more complicated: when Germany was divided, i worked a Y23 (E.
Germany) as well as a DA...that counted for two entities...both are listed
on the "deleted entity" list...now that Germany is unified, when I work a
DA, does that count as another entity, of have i lost one? in other words,
do i get 1, 2, or 3 entity credits for having worked all these German
configurations.
appreciate thoughts and advice...
