Phil, DXView will indeed show you the ITU zone or CQ zone for a
particular grid square:
1. click the Map panel's "World" button so that the world map is visible
2. enter a gridsquare designator in the Grid box and strike the enter
key - DXView will place a blue dot on the world map identifying that
square's location
3. in the World map window, click the "CQ Zones" or "ITU Zones" radio
button - DXView will draw and label the specified zones on the world
map. Note the zone containing the blue dot, and you have your answer.
Using this technique with gridsquare EB90ma, you will see the that CQ
zone is 12 and the ITU zone is 74 .
Unlike grid squares, neither CQ zone boundaries nor ITU zone boundaries
are geometrically specified, so a simple algorithmic conversion is not
possible. One must either populate a table for each grid square, or
digitize the zone boundaries and use pixel-flooding to determine the
zone enclosing an arbitrary location.

Hi agn,
Appreciate the comments and suggestions on the subject inquiry.
I received in part the following:
>
Hello, Phil.
4K1D is Novolazarevskaya base. WAZ zone is 38 (not 36), ITU zone is 67.
This was a club callsign of the base and now new call is R1AND. For
R3RRC/ant (Patriot Hills base) WAZ zone is 12.

Tnx Constantin for this information. I have added it to my

Tnx Jan for this info. I downloaded this and does indicate the
zones quite well on the map. Good example is the R3RRC/ant
card
with a location of 80S 81W, shows the zone 12 nice however is
hard to tell the ITU zone. No big deal for what I am doing. >
DXView will do that. If you enter a gridsquare or latitude/longitude, it
will plot the location on a world map that optionally displays CQ zone
boundaries, or ITU zone boundaries. DXView is free, and available via
www.qsl.net/dxview . 73, Dave, AA6YQ >
Tnx Dave and have tried this. It has a lot there but does not
do the
conversion only from grid square/locator to zones. If you
don't
put a
call in and just enter the grid square it won't come up with
the
zones.
I thought there was a program or section of a program to compute this
since all are based on co-ordinates.
Tnx agn guys as your time is appreciated and will keep you posted on any
further results.
